“No. Maybe. Yes.”
“You two break up? Or are you in love?” she asked, batting her eyelashes in an exaggerated way.
Maria laughed.
“No, we didn’t break up. We had a couple of dates. And I’m not in love. It’s – It’s only been a couple of dates,” she said.
Carmelina smiled and looked at her boss.

“… So Ms. Johnson we expect you to be there when we implement your idea.”
“Respectfully, Sir, I believe the apology needs to come from one of the partners for it -”
“Oh yes, the apology will be from one of us. I want you there to act as one of the lead attorneys on the countersuit claim. You’ll be heading that up.”
Wait until I tell Maria. She’ll be so excited.
“Thank you Mr. Whittaker. I’d like to have Sam McGee on my team.”
“You’d have to ask him of course. He’s one of our associates, yes? Directly over you if I remember correctly.”
“Yes. He’s also one of our best litigation lawyers and a bitch to handle in the courtroom. Respectfully.”
“It’s your team and your show to run. We’re giving you control. Just make sure to win.”
“I always plan on winning, Sir.”

“So you’re going to be going to trial?” asked Maria into her cell phone.
“We’re going to sue the other law firm for negligence and breach of contract and basically screw them for coming after our client.”
“So it wasn’t the old lady suing you but the other law firm?”
Juanita laughed a short laugh. “Not exactly. I can’t go too much into it but basically they told our client, the ‘old lady” some things that put us in a bad light and in one instance just flat out wrong. She got mad and threatened to pull us off one of her deals and drop us all together, which would be a big loss. So basically my plan was the partners grovel and kiss her ass to get her back. The partners liked the way I framed the ‘apology’. They’re suing the firm that gave our client advice for giving crappy advice, making us look bad and lying. Mostly making us look bad. Haha. And they want me to lead the team suing the other firm.”
“So when I start talking about hairdressing and the stuff going on at the salon are you just nodding your head and don’t have a clue as to what I’m talking about too?”
Juanita laughed. “I wouldn’t say no clue -”
“So you don’t give a shit about what I’m talking about either huh?”
“Of course I care. But only because it’s you talking,” said Juanita, wishing she could look into Maria’s eyes.
“Sweet talker,” said Maria. “So what are we going to talk about if not work?”
“I think we talk too much. We need to do more activities that don’t include conversation.”
“Oh? Such as?”
