“Oh no, we’ll be splitting the bill. I don’t want you to think I owe you.”
“You might enjoy that,” challenged Juanita.
Maria raised an eyebrow, smiled and handed the waiter her card. Juanita added her card.
“I’ll be right back,” replied the waiter.
Juanita walked Maria to her car.
“Thank you for a lovely evening.”
“The pleasure was mine. It’s been too long since I’ve been out with such enjoyable company.”
“I agree. It’s been too long for me as well. I’ll call you to confirm Saturday.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Maria was closing up shop when the phone rang.
“House of Bonita, Maria speaking. How may I help you?”
“Hi Maria, this is Juanita.”
“Hey Juanita. I’m just closing up for the day.”
“Then I caught you at a good time. Are you free tomorrow? I was thinking we could see the new Batman movie.”
“Really?”
“”You don’t like Batman?” asked Juanita jokingly.
“I’d rather see the new Erika Spellman movie.”
“The period romance movie? With Ben Singleton?”
“I like romance movies. Rom-coms are a guilty pleasure.”
“Batman has Seanrita Jones.”
“Aha! The real reason comes out!” laughed Maria.
Juanita laughed. “The woman is fine! I’d let her tie me up and do wicked things with her steel pipe.”
“Oh really?”
“Girl, yes. Those big hazel eyes and full lips …”
“What if I tie you up and make you watch ‘Ocean Sunset’ “
“Do you have a steel bar?” asked Juanita teasingly.
“I have a plastic one … and it vibrates.”
“Oooo. Promise to use it on me?”
“Until you’re begging,” said Maria. Her voice low and dripping with honey.
“Mmmmm. Okay, I suppose I can sit through one romantic movie.”
“ ‘Bridges Fall’ it is!”
“Oh God. What have I done?”

Juanita arrived at the movie theater and parked her motorcycle near the entrance. She walked up to the entrance and looked to see if Maria was there. Not seeing her she went back outside and checked her phone. She wasn’t surprised since she was early and they had plenty of time before the movie started. Shortly she saw Maria arrive in her red sedan. She greeted her with a hug and kiss on her cheek.
