I don’t like chocolate

I don’t like chocolate
Yes, it is so
I do like caramel
But that’s neither here nor there
The two pair so well
But I don’t like chocolate
Rich, deep chocolate
Blech
I will eat milk chocolate
But not too much

If the chocolate has that waxy taste
Almost fake
Like it was made in a factory
And they were running low on coco
Add extra milk, maybe some sugar too
That I will have
But it needs something else
Like caramel
(I did say I like caramel)
Or maybe some crisped rice
(Who thought of crisped puff rice? I can imagine some ancient Asian rolling in their grave)
But not nuts

I don’t like nuts
I don’t like chocolate
I don’t like nuts in chocolate
You ruined my peanut butter!
You ruined my chocolate!
I’m fine btw, thanks

I do have a sweet tooth
Teeth some might say
But it’s cake over candy
Ice cream is A - OK
So a list of candies though it may be sweet
As a poem for me
Is just a treat

Twix, yes
But Snickers, no
Good & Plenty I’ll have a go
Red Hots too spicy
Skittles will do nicely
Sweetarts, are sweet hearts
Payday is a no though
Whatchamacallit, yeah, that I’ll hit
Sugar babies are the bomb
Oh Henry is an enemy
Though in a pinch, it sounds bizarre
I’ll have a Three Musketeers bar.

This was for a dVerse prompt: Write a poem that includes at least one of the names of a candy listed above. You can delete the word “bars” from the candy name, but you can not change the order of the words in the name or add any words between the words in the name.

This is a longer piece and one where I’ve put more of me into it, unlike most of my poems. I didn’t want to do just a rambling off of the candies listed but did want to use more than a couple in some way. This is what I came up with. Something a bit more poetic looking morphing into the candy rhyming scheme at the end. Hope it worked and you enjoyed!

  1. It worked!!! Love how you go through your preferences….the repetition, the pacing, the candy names at the end. It all works! Favorite line?”(Who thought of crisped puff rice? I can imagine some ancient Asian rolling in their grave)”Smiling just including that favorite line in my reply!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it. I can only imagine what ancestors would think of modern foods. Probably not many good things. lol Glad to put a smile on your face. ☺
