The Dark of Night

The dark of night, furthest from the day
Leads me into the darkest shadows.
Where imaginations come out to play;
Dance upon my mind’s dark gallows.
See where the moon dare not glow.
Open your eyes wide to the possibility.
Prepare your heart for the gruesome show
Brought to life by an unholy trinity.
Me, myself and I
Come for you, yours and yourself.
Oh how time does fly
When you can put your morals upon a shelf.
Come enjoy the freedom of the night;
Where wild fancies are given flight.

This is for a dVerse prompt: I’d like you to write a poem that centers around the night. I hope you enjoy! 😊

  1. In the darkest shadows is often where the imagination comes to life. Sometimes it brings fear or nightmares and yet other times it guides us towards the light.

  2. Spoken in the voice of the night’s impresario, Stew, tempting the unwary into “the darkest of shadows.” The commanding tone of your poem reminded me vividly of Lady Macbeth’s call to the dark spirits of the night. She was all in. And so would be any who heeded this poem’s siren call! These lines stood out for me: “Dance upon my mind’s dark gallows” and “Come for you, yours and yourself” — quite the self-serving nod in this entertaining read.
