Untouched Heart Strings

Walking through the door to a meadow,
The rain a light mist
Just enough to shroud the horizon in a blanket of grey.
Tears stay hidden within my eyes.
Not shed for her,
Not shed for her leaving,
Not breaking my heart as I stumble from my home.

I walk among the droplets of water
Frozen in a breeze not blowing.
They cling to me like a lost lover returned home.
Unlike my lover who has left our home.

I walk faster, not yet a run,
Fleeing from the face that floats behind my unopened eyes,
Smiles that will never be mine,
Arms I long to hold me again,
A house no longer a home.

Stumble and fall to a wet ground;
The product of a sad sky’s tears.
I lay face down in the grass,
My face wet with a salty mix of dew and floating rain,
Certainly not tears.
And as the moisture seeps into my clothes,
I admit -
I miss you.

Listen to the poem with snippets of ‘Adagio for Strings’ in the background

This is for a dVerse prompt: Now listen to ‘Adagio for Strings’ conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and played by the Wiener Philharmoniker. Write a poem that does one of the following:

  • Explores the music through imaginative imagery or storytelling.
  • Expresses your thoughts and feelings on listening to this piece of music.
  • Describes the music in words.

I chose to explore the music through a poem set to music. Classical music often creates images of stories in my head. And I chose to use snippets of the piece as I wasn’t doing a 9 minute poem or story. LOL I hope you enjoy. 😊
