Head North: 5th Time the Charm

A compass pointing north in black & white.

Home.
A place where you live.
But more than that, where you have a heart.
Mine was not my first residence
But where my heart was: Grandma’s House.

We lived there more than once,
My mom and I,
And departed more times than that.
I remember moving, one of my first,
From city to county.

Then back home.
A lengthier stay or perhaps I was just older
Before we moved again.
The compass pointed north;
A different state.

State of being, state of mind, different in all kinds.
We moved away from home to school
Higher learning, learned away from home.
Walls like a castle with grounds to play.
We moved within the north and even came back home before going back.

After school we stayed but home has a siren’s call
Yet we didn’t move. I stayed. She went home.
The compass recentered, north was home
Yet home was always where the heart is.
My home, my heart is now even more north, True North, strong and free

This is for a dVerse prompt: And that is where our MTB poetry prompt begins today, leaving home, the central compass point of departure, thus:

1st stanza is your home (real or imaginary)
next 4 stanzas – each compass point away from your home
5 lines per stanza – quintain
syllabic structure, optional rhyme (Crown Cinquain)*
OR
unrhymed and unstructured (Pentastitch)
the title should begin or include: “Five …………”

I hope you enjoy! 😊
